How long can an e-bike last?

How long does an e MTB battery last?

Electric bike batteries will gradually lose capacity over time from continuous discharging and recharging. But there are a few ways to ensure that your battery lasts for as long as possible, here are some tips; 

• Never store your electric bike with the battery completely empty. Whenever possible, make sure the battery is charged between 80% and 40% of its full capacity before storing it for an extended period of time. A lithium-ion battery will steadily discharge over time even when you’re not using it, so storing a totally discharged battery could be bad.
• Never regularly let your battery drain to zero. It has been established that routinely discharging your battery to 0% of its capacity can damage it. It is better to just partially discharge lithium-ion batteries and top them off frequently, this helps increase their lifespan.
• Avoid leaving your electric bike out in the sun for long periods of time, and when not in use, put your battery somewhere cool, ideally below 20 °C (68 °F).

How often should I charge my ebike?

You should charge your e-bike when the battery falls below 40%. And if your e-bike battery is hot after a ride, you should let it cool down a bit before recharging it. 

It’s important that you never let your e-bike battery totally discharge before recharging it. Letting your battery regularly drain completely will reduce its lifespan. 

Also, your e-bike battery should always be charged to 50% or slightly more for storage. Completely draining a lithium battery might damage the cell structure. If this happens, the battery will be unable to retain a charge and this cannot be fixed.

Over time, all batteries slowly discharge themselves, but this happens very slowly with lithium batteries. You won’t have this problem if you don’t leave your battery fully depleted for an extended period of time.
